Looking for that place you saw on TV and wondering whether or not it’s really as good as they say it is? Welcome to El Indio, a San Diego staple. When you walk in, you’ll be warmly greeted. You’ll take note of how reasonable the prices are compared to the competition. You’ll ask yourself, do I really need a churro with my meal? The answer is yes. The food is made fresh, the drink machine is within easy reach, tables are plentiful, and if you happen to need more food, it’ll be ready fast. It’s clean. Parking is better here than other places nearby. They’re kid friendly. Outside tables also available to take in the sun. If you’re in the area, and find yourself hungry, stop on in.

We ate here our first night in San Diego. This place has been around since 1949. Order up at the counter and eat in or take it to go. They had a huge menu of authentic Mexican food. We were here at 6pm on a Tuesday night and the place was packed with locals. We ordered the shredded beef burrito, the San Diego burrito, carne asada street tacos and a kids taquito meal. The portions were humongous and delicious. We definitely loved everything and highly recommend El Indio.

We moved out of the SoCal and came to San Diego for a visit. We were dying for some quality Mexican food. A friend told us El Indio was the best in San Diego. The food was incredible! You also need to buy a bag of their homemade chips!! Divine. The staff is friendly, ingredients are fresh, and the food came out of the kitchen at the perfect temperature. Hot stuff was hot, cold stuff was cold. We couldn't eat everything as the portions were huge.

Pretty good food, fresh tortillas and super friendly service. Lots of paid metered parking on the street but it’s possible to find free street parking too. Chips and salsa are delicious. Very affordable too.

It's been years since I've been here. Iconic restaurant in San Diego. Had potato taquitos and was pleasantly surprised. The regular nachos were just okay, the cheese was sauce similar to what you would get at a stadium event. I would have preferred melted grated cheese

This place was cool! Nice atmosphere with some good outdoor seating. I enjoyed my pork tamales and the soft drink selection available at this place. Staff were understanding of our being new to the restaurant and helped us all place orders that suited our tastes. Thanks!

It was taco Tuesday , had carne asada , adobada, chicken . The adobada had the most flavor. The asada and the chicken were also good. The Beef Chimichanga plate was very good also , just the right spice and excellent crispy tortilla wrap. 3 different salsa selections . You can pick up crispy chile flavored chips to go . Great spot to enjoy a tasty Mexican Meal .

Love the old school decor and paintings. Great seating too. LOVE the taquitos. Freshest masa I’ve ever had. Chile relleno is great too but prefer the taquitos. Tamales are also very good. Chips are great. I like how they give a little on each plate. Love that you can buy some of their products to take home! The salsa bar is amazing too, there’s only a few places I’m aware of that have a true salsa bar which takes the place up a notch.
